from a Life Less Ordinary"

"Why me? is a selfish question.  Ask yourself, "Why not me?"

I never believed that I could become an author.  Until now.

As a special needs child, I have been fortunate to have family and friends who instilled optimism and confidence. Working hard to overcome my physical limitations and the associated stereotypes, I have asked myself, "Why not me?"

Standing in front of audiences, I share stories that have inspired me to triumph over cerebral palsy and profound hearing loss, to realize my dream of walking.  Growing up at a time before inclusion was the guiding standard in education, I was lucky to be mainstreamed yet encountered bullying in school. Rather than respond in anger, I chose to forgive and help the bullies!  A positive mindset can also help us  celebrate our uniqueness and accept others who are different.  Learning about these differences reduces the fear of being different which can be transformed into kindness, respect, and perhaps admiration.

I believe this is the triumph of the human spirit.

As a motivational speaker, it is rewarding to help instill in others the courage to navigate life's challenges. Several students have reached out to me 10-15 years later, thanking me for saving their life. Nothing could ever be more important.

This was the inspiration I needed to write a memoir.  Rather than share my life stories in chronological order, each moment is categorized according to a specific ideal needed to achieve, such as self-love, a positive attitude, support group, perseverance, resilience, and empathy.  That ideal then becomes its own chapter!

The book cover is unique.  With the letters N O shattered, along with the 'T hiding behind the exclamation point, it's a captivating visual that a negative No I Can't  mindset can always be transformed into one reflective of Yes I Can!

If my story offers readers a new perspective on their lives, it was worth sharing.
